 Michael Niemann

You know you’re close to greatness when you can touch the hand and read the words of an author whose short story was *chosen* by Lee Child. Local crime fiction author Michael Niemann is just that writer, whose short story Africa Always Needs Guns made the short list for publication in Vengeance edited by Lee Child and published in 2012 by Mulholland Books, a Little Brown imprint.

Vengeance is a marvelous collection showcasing justice served outside the law, and Africa Always Needs Guns fits right in. It’s a fast paced tale set in the eastern Congo featuring Neiman’s character Valentin Vermeulen who discovers that a humanitarian relief shipment isn’t what it seems. The setting feels true, dialogue crackles with suspense and the short is filled with rage.

Niemann’s short story sits alongside those by Dennis Lehane, Alafair Burke, Michael Connelly and other contemporary masters of the genre. Niemann writes from a breadth of knowledge and experience – his travels in Africa and around the globe as an international political economist inform his writing and spark his imagination.

Join us on Friday July 13, 2012, 6pm at Bookwagon and meet Michael Niemann. Learn how hard work to perfect your craft and hone your words (with a little luck) can pay off big time.  Find out how and why Africa Always Needs Guns was selected for Vengeance. And as always enjoy friends and fans of crime fiction, right here in the Rogue Valley.
