Zoe Ferraris: Crime Fiction From Behind the Veil
San Francisco author Zoe
Ferraris will be at Bookwagon New and
Finding Nouf was Ferraris' first crime fiction work featuring Nayir Sarqui and Katya Hijazi, published by Houghton Mifflin in 2008. Set in the Saudi port town of Jeddah, Finding Nouf quickly gained critical and popular acclaim. City of Veils followed in 2010, published by Little Brown. Her latest, Kingdom of Strangers will be released in June 2012.
American
novelist Ferraris lived in Saudi Arabia with her then
husband and his extended family of Saudi-Palestinian
Bedouins in the wake of the first Gulf War. She renders
a suspenseful mystery and a sobering portrait of the
lives of
Zoe Ferraris was interviewed in June 2010 by Publishers Weekly, where she talks about shariya law and how perceptions, views and culture are changing in contemporary Saudi Arabia, in part due to technology and the demographic shift of Saudi women, who are aging out of sexual prohibitions.
