Mystery Author Lorena McCourtney to Appear in May

Lorena McCourtney

Lorena McCourtney will speak and sign at the next meeting of the Ashland Mystery Readers Group on Thursday, May 12th, 2005, 7pm at the Ashland Public Library.  Ashland Mystery Readers Group events are open to the public and there is no charge to attend.

McCourtney's Christian mysteries are delightfully down-to-earth and fun reads with a moral message.  Her Ivy Malone mysteries feature Ivy Malone, an inconspicuous older woman who has a mutant curiosity gene and a powerful faith that often lands her in trouble. Unlike most women her age, she snoops and pries her gray-haired self into one hilarious escapade after another.  In the first book of the series, Invisible, Ivy discovers that the invisibility created by her age and appearance lets her snoop to her heart's content.  In Plain Sight, published in April 2005 by Revell, Ivy again takes advantage of her low profile as she hides out in a small Arkansas town where a housekeeping job puts her at just the right time and place to exercise her amateur sleuthing abilities.

Lorena McCourtney, who lives in Grants Pass, also writes the Julesburg mysteries, set in the fictional town of Julesburg on the stunning coast of Oregon. These romanticmysteries (Whirlpool, Riptide and Undertow) feature the kinds of places and situations you'd expect in a small coastal town -- a haunted theater turned into an arts and crafts mini-mall, the murder of the woman who stole Stephanie's husband, a woman escaping her east coast past.  Several of the Julesburg books have won awards from Romantic Times and Romance Writers of America.

The Ashland Mystery Readers Group meets monthly on second Thursdays, usually at the Ashland Public Library, hosting mystery writers and readers.  The series is sponsored by the Friends of the Ashland Public Library and Bloomsbury Books.

The Ashland Mystery Readers Group also produces the cable access television show Ashland Mystery, rvtv noir, hosted by Maryann Mason who interviews the visiting mystery writers. Ashland Mystery, rvtv noir airs Wednesdays at 7:30 pm on Cable Channel 31 in Jackson County, Cable Channel 15 in Josephine County and Cable Channel 95 on AFN.
