Blood, Booze and Bingo on the Tundra
The Life and Times of Inupiat Investigator
Nathan Active

Meet Alaskan mystery writer Stan Jones at Bookwagon in Ashland on Saturday September 15 at 6pm where he will present Blood, Booze and Bingo on the Tundra: The Life and Times of Inupiat Investigator Nathan Active.

Jones will also be at Barnes and Noble in Medford on Friday September 14 at 6p to sign his works. Both events are free and open to the public.

Jones is the author of Shaman Pass and White Sky, Black Ice, both published by Soho Crime and his works has created a wonderfully naÔve and observant investigator in Nathan Active. An Inupiat Eskimo raised by whites in Anchorage, Active exists in an uneasy state between his two worlds, trying to understand his heritage and come to terms with the circumstances of his birth.

Alaska itself is a character in Jonesís works. Cold and forbidding, Alaska steels the soul of itís people, while stealing their hearts. You wonít find the Alaska of cruise ships or excursions to Denali ó youíll find the hardship of daily survival and the mysticism, cynicism, and hope of those who live there.

Marilyn Stasio, crime fiction editor for the New York Times Book Review says, "You can feel the bite of the west wind that comes screaming across the Alaska tundra and sense the isolation of the Inupiat Eskimos who live in this desolate part of the far north."

When Jones is not writing crime fiction or exploring the vast reaches of Alaska and the Arctic Circle, he can be found in Anchorage, Alaska, at the Prince William Sound Citizenís Advisory Council, formed in response to the Exxon Valdez disaster.

Stan Jones' visit to Southern Oregon is sponsored by the Ashland Mystery Readers Group and Friends of the Ashland Public Library. The Ashland Mystery Readers Group also produces the cable access television show Ashland Mystery, rvtv noir, airing Wednesdays at 7:30 pm on Cable Channel 15 -- great crime fiction in Southern Oregon.
